A shoppable home is a concept where a living space is styled to display and sell different types of furniture and home accessories. How is this different from regular furniture stores, you may ask? Well, it offers a more personalized and hearty shopping experience.
It’s like stepping inside a living catalog where you can feel, touch, and experience the furniture. Shoppable homes are curated to allow you to envision the furniture pieces in your home. NÁLAM | Budapest Shoppable Home
NÁLAM officially opened its doors at the beginning of July.
The opening was an elevated event with invite-only participation and, my personal favorite, the most gorgeous charcuterie board.
The building’s architecture is absolutely divine. Walking into the main area, you’re welcomed by a bright ambience that adorns the room through the large bow windows. This section of the building is the centerpiece of the home, and its views overlook the serene Buda hills, making it even better.
Next to the living space is a green room. This room doubles as the in-house studio, with deep green walls and musical instruments all around. Its green walls create a huge contrast with the rest of the home, making it stand out while still fitting in.
Like most parts of Budapest, you have to look up when you step inside this shoppable home. The intricate ceiling, which was restored from a church, brings color to the room and harmoniously blends with the earthy yet modern nature of this space. But that’s not the only reason it’s so special.
NÁLAM | Architectural History
This building was over a century old and designed by Komor Marcell and Jakab Dezső, well-known architects of that time. The premises served as both an office and living quarters for the architects. Both architects collected artworks, but little was left after a German Raid in 1944. Nearly a year later, half of the property was hit by a bomb, completing the burning down.
Postwar, the remaining side of the building was divided into several apartments until they were later rejoined in 2010.
Fast forward to the present day, this beautiful heritage home has been restored by Tamás and Shalay to realize the concept of the shoppable home. Making it not only a place for them to enjoy but for others as well, much like Dezső and Marcell once did.
